A very sane comment - part of what riders and trainers should be doing is
allowing the horse to indicate to us what it is capable of. Personalities
and physical aptitudes will really determine how great a horse is in certain
areas, and to what level it can arrive. However, the human is fully capable
of both preventing the horse from reaching that level or helping the horse.
A gymnast may be Olympic potential, but without the proper coaching and
workout routines there's no way to achieve that level. For this reason, the
rider has the responsibility to learn the skills to both train and condition
the horse; the more knowledge he has of gymnastic exercises to supple and
strengthen the horse, the greater the chances of success for long periods of
time.
