At a ride a couple of weeks ago this subject came up.
A rider had a hunter jumper who was taking jumps. He began ticking the top
rails but was still clearing. The rider called the vet to learn that the
horse was totally blind in one eye and almost all blind (90%) in the other.
The thinking was that the horse could feel the moment from the rider. It
seems that if the horse is in familiar surroundings he will be able to adapt
quite nicely. This comports with other articles I have read over the years
on the subject.
