In a message dated 96-12-12 04:00:01 EST, you write:

>> I agree with Joyce on this one. I would like to see Best Condition
considered
1st place with the top ten placed in order of their vet scores. I know this
will not be met with much enthusiasm, the human being is rather resistant to
change. However, if more emphasis were placed on the horse's well being, we
wouldn't have discussions that debate how people will treat their horses to
win a cash prize. I have seen riders push way too hard to place in the top
ten,and I know there are those of you out there who have witnessed this type
of behavior as well. In one case the person who finished first had ridden
his
horse so hard that the vets told him not to even show up for BC judging.
This
particular person rode his horse in this manner all season. He consistently
finished in the top ten, usually in the top five. His vet scores were
usually
at the bottom of the top ten. His poor horse could have been the poster
child
for the saying, "Rode hard and put up wet". Just my $.02.

I disagree, but have another thought...I have been to several rides where the
last vet check was close to the finish (like 5 miles) and seen MANY a horse
pulled here. It works for horses who have been ridden too hard.
