Dear Karen,

We too want to be "on the safe side" of the drug issue but thus far we
can't seem to get any straight answers.

For more than a year I have asked BoD members, vets, experienced
riders, et.al. to give us some simple test of when a food supplement
becomes a drug. If that's not possible, then could we have a
comprehensive list of banned substances and their clearance times.
Thus far, my requests have been met with personal attacks, blank stares
and useless referrals. Frustration city!

So now what? My reading of the literature and attendance at various
lectures says that such products can PREVENT degenerative joint
desease. Which is our biggest interest, not playing on the wild side of
the drug rule. Should we pass on prevention or what?

Now about the status quo. We travel thousands of miles to dozens of
rides every year. I routinely talk to folks about using chondroitin
sulphates, hyaluronic acids, glycosaminoglycans, and other joint
protective products. The most common answer I get to the "us'em?"
question is "yep" or "would if I could afford'em." These folks are
knowlegeable riders with years of experience. Do they know something
about the drug rule we don't? Or, is a significant percentage of our
members in violation of rule? I can't say for sure, I doubt if anyone
can at this point.

HELP!
