California Travel Requirements for horses.

I just got off the phone with the Calif State Brand inspector for Kern County (Dee
Bouscal). He said for travel inside California nothing other than ownership papers are
required. The only exception is if an outbreak of some kind has occurred which might
require all horses leaving to be tested.
If you go out of state then you have to meet that state's requirements which are
usually a health certificate and a coggins test as well as ownership papers. If another
state's brand inspector asks for your brand inspection you tell him your from Calif and
will be returning to Calif and none is required. Dee told me that if he questions that
to give him Dee's name and number and have him call Dee. To Calif residents, each county
has it's own inspector. Dee said years ago he did inspection certificates for horses and
people traveling to other states would carry them but that Calif discontinued this
practice.
I tried the 1-800-545-8732 phone number others gave on this list and it works well for
other state requirements.

So amazingly I guess I've been legal all along!
