One of AERC rules is that every horse who completes the ride will recive an
award. I have recieved many certificates stateing horse/rider/date/ride
miles. They are one of my favorite awards. Not all rides give certificates.
Some give T-Shirts, water bottles, hats, etc. I have a very small pin in the
shape of an antelope that is worth more to me than most everything I own (the
one exception is my wedding ring). I have never come in top ten (11th once),
and I have never failed to recieve something. We all know the motto " To
Finish is to Win". Any horse/rider team that completes a ride deserves an
award, after all not everyone finishes. Any ride that only awards the top ten
is violating the spirit of "to finish is to Win" as well as one of the very
few AERC rules. Many rides give an extra, or more impressive, award to top
ten riders. I think that's a great idea. Someday I hope to get one of those
neat top ten awards, because that would make me elligable for BC and I plan
on winning that.
