Upon first reading the statement about Nutramax's inquiry about offering cash
prizes and such, I was disturbed and thought that this type of thing would
cause the death of our chosen sport, endurance riding as we knew it. Things
would become overpriced and outclassed for most of us in the sport for
pleasure, not gain. However, a wise friend of mine pointed out some important
facts to me from both sides of the issue and I have to say that I have
experienced an about face with my opinion. She stated that yes, some may
override their mounts for prize money, but unfortunately there are those who
override their mounts for a lousy T-shirt with things the way they are now.
Point taken. Truthfully, our sport, our passion could use an infusion of
cash, and recognition. I know that most ride managers barely break even now,
so I believe that if things are strictly regulated and monitered that some
cash prizes and incentives will not harm our sport beyond recognition. Heck
this may be the beginning of a very good thing for endurance riding.
Therefore, please remove my name from the letter going to the AERC.
Respectfully,
