Rice Bran

Have not been following all the notes on rice bran but I have some
stored in a shed and has been stored and used off and on for about
9 months. My question is does fat in the rice bran break down and
go bad like old oil does? It has a rancid smell to it. I am hesitant
to feed to my horses but I only feed it for the endurance races
and it is expensive to feed and throw out. Does anyone know? It
had been stored in a plastic bin made by Rubbermaid.
