<< do you disconnect your wires from the transmitter after every ride? I
seem to recall reading in the manual that the batteries go dead much sooner
if left connected. Any truth to that?

YOU BET, the transmitter battery will run down.. quite fast IF the electrode
pads are wrapped together.
