Securing your sponge

I tried posting this ages ago, but was unsuccessful. It seems we are getting
through (today) so here goes.
I often see people fiddling about untying and re-tying a sponge to the
saddle when stopping at a puddle to wash their horse.
What I do is to take a large brass swivel snap, of the type used on lead
ropes, and poke the sponge through the ring. I use one of those
kidney-shaped sponges of the car washing type and find it will fit through
the ring on the snap, with a little persuasion. Then, with the sponge
half-way through the ring it is a simple matter of clipping it to a handy
dee on the saddle. It is secure and can be deployed rapidly. If I picked up
all the lost sponges I have seen on the track I could go into business!
Maybe someone out there may find my little hint handy.

BTW, I am finding the discussion of the past few weeks fascinating. I run my
mare in good condition and find she recovers after a ride so much better. We
too are seeing less skinny horses than years ago.
