I started distance riding in the early 70's with an Appaloosa. I sure didn't
know what I had!!!

1. He never took a lame step.

2. I did EVERYTHING with him...hunter/jumper/foxhunt and TONS of just
riding.

3. He panted, so I LEARNED.

Then I got an arab....I trained for three months..5-15 miles every other day
(built up to it of course) and entered a 60 thinking "To Finish is to
Win"..well WE WON!!! I don't mean just finish...WE WON!!! With less than
half the training I put into the Appy who did his share of winning as well.

Yes, arabains biggest fault is the fact that they will go and go and go and
don't care if they are not in shape. My appy would quit or NOT go if he was
not ready. SOOOOOO, I do believe that arabs fool us into thinking they are
better or more ready than they really are...they are NOT BIONIC and they need
just as many base miles on consistent training as any other horse to do the
job and LAST.
