We feed our horses one mixture of sloppy rice bran sometimes with cut-up
carrots and/or apples and one mixture of 'chop' which is chopped alfalfa mixed
well with water with cut-up carrots and/or apples. We also offer them a
sloppy bran (wheat) and wet hay. We have had some of our horses choke on
dry hay so we no longer feed dry anything to our horses during a ride. Each
horse has its own preference so we like to give a variety and they chose what
they need. Did I miss anything Dory? I have to add here that these wonderful
concoctions are served by our pit crew (Fish Creek Endurance Team). One of
the reasons our crew has such a good reputation is their generous care of our
horses and the attention to every detail and specific needs of individual
horses. Bottom line is: what they like and will eat - give it to them!
Sometimes all they want is grass and that's OK too as long as they eat some-
thing. Keep those gut sounds active.
