This is what comes of tolerating lawyers and the appeals process in our
society and our sport. It seems to be getting worse instead of better.

They probably won't, again because of the fear of getting sued.
Unfortunately, this has taught boorish and ill-mannered oafs that they can
run roughshod over everyone and anyone in their path, with their trusty
attorney at their side, another example of water seeking its own level.

As a veteran of many miles ridden in the "wrong" direction, I have found
compensations better than ribbons---juicy huckleberries shared with The
Roan, scenery and time to enjoy it, pretty wildflowers in meadows that
everyone raced past without stopping to enjoy, etc.

I think sometimes we all need to step back and remember what this sport is
supposed to be about. I think we should also ban lawyers from our sport
(unless they swear an oath to behave like horsemen and athletes, and not be
trolling for business) as well as those who use them as an alternative to
accepting responsibility for their own actions.
