the rider options all stemmed from a lady--Flora Smith--who was riding a
young horse. In a water hole, the young horse blew up and slammed her
into a tree body first. She was wearing a helmet--thankfully--but they
thought she might have head/spine injuries upon first check. Help
arrived very quickly, thanks to some really good spotters and one spotter
being a fireman/emt. She was transported to the hospital, a series of
tests/X-rays run, and was found to have a broken ankle and probably a
minor concussion. Her face was black and blue, and probably her whole
upper body was sore and stiff for quite a while.
the ride manager, Jean Wonser, told me that the two guys riding with her
were Reinactors from the 1st Fl. Calvary, and they were out for their
first endurance ride. They won the HERO award, and were happy to have
been able to help out.
This ride is rescheduled for Nov. 1st 1997. Put is on your calender.
It's a nice ride in the N. part of Fl, in the Osceola national Forest.
