Coming from a NATRC rider perspective where no forward motion is allowed
unless you are mounted I ***never*** get off and walk downhill. In fact I
don't get off and tail uphill either. My knees are nearly shot and the
only way I am going to finish any ride at all is if I stay on top. I also
feel that my horses are much better at handling the really steep
downhills than I am and I won't risk getting myself tripped or me
stumbling and falling in front of the horse or trying to have 2 of us
side by side on a trail really meant for only one. I'd have been one of
those asking you if you and your horse were all right if I saw you
leading your horse. <smile>
