Question: OF saddle repair

I finally gave my Orthoflex Swain CT (a Stubben clone with the Brown panel
system) a good look last night to determine why Kasey had developed a
sore the size of a half dollar alongside the spine and forward of the
cantle but not at my seat bone location. Also there are numerous white
hairs coming in, again alongside the spine, front to back, one side
only. I had suspected that the bolt securing the panel may have
loosened--and sure enough, the panel slips side-to-side almost freely.

I called OF and they will be happy to repair the saddle. The sales rep
offered an option to replace these panels with newer, shorter (i.e. 22")
version.

Question--has anyone replaced their panels with the shorter ones? At
$250 I need to think about this carefully, particularly since my panels
are a shade over 23" and I don't see much benefit in it. However, if the
panels do need to be replaced in any case, is shorter better?

Any input most gratefully accepted.
