For water scoops I have seen bleach bottles modified (better clean it out
real good). I use a collapseable bucket made out of vinyl with seams welded
so there is no leakage. It fold, rolls, and/or scrunches up in as small a
size as one needs. I also use this to water my horses in the trailer if
they can't be unloaded.

Most rides offer a bucket for sponging along side the water trough so you
don't have to dip a dirty sponge in the drinking water. Many riders still
forget to do this in the excitement of the 'chase', but look around and I'm
sure you'll see a sponge bucket close by.
