Sully,

Here in England, there has been much controversy about saddles and saddle fits.
Varying designs for English saddles for Endurance and of course an increasing
amount of Western Saddles on the market.

Out of all this, one factor seems to shine forth, no one saddle is the answer
for every horse, I'm afraid you've got to go out there and find what is right
for your equine friend, if your horse moves nicely under it, he's not in any
pain then you've been lucky to find the right saddle for your partner. Don't be
persuaded by experts that your present saddle is no good, it might not have
suited their horses, but if it suits yours, and he's happy stick with it.

I know so many distance riders who are continually changing saddles, as they
haven't been able to find the right saddle for their horses, its expensive and
only time can tell whether you've made the correct choice. Stick to yours if you
horse is happy, and consider yourself lucky.

Regards

Jan

Does anyone out there have the endurance style sports saddle? I've had mine
for five years and love it. When I aws at equitana I talked to some
endurance riders who siad they weren't good for the horses backs.

Alice,

I have two Sport Saddles, and ride mostly for fun on the trail.
Do a few endurance rides a year. In 3 years, I have never seen
any kind of sore back from this saddle, even after riding hard
3 days in a row. I consider it to be the best saddle I have
run across. It certainly works for me and my horses; is the most
comfortable and balanced saddle I have found, and I feel my
horses move out better. I think I must know at least 25 people who
have ended up with this saddle, and haven't heard of any major
complaints about it.

I am somewhat surprised at what you heard at Equitana, although
everyone has different opinions. I believe that Genie Stewart
Spears was there, doing demos for AERC, and I would assumme she
was using her saddles (Sport Saddles). As she is a very successful
competitor and does 100 mile rides at this saddle, you might want
to direct your question to her, as Horseworks@aol.com
