I always said that I did not need nor want 4wd on my tow vehicle. Last year I
got a steel 2-horse gooseneck with dressing room. The used truck I happened
to buy to pull it is an F-250 diesel 4WD. The 4WD just happened to come with
this truck - I wasn't looking to find one with it. Since getting it I have
found that it is nice to have. For example, it let me get myself out of a
very muddy camping field at the War Eagle Ride this year when many others had
to be pulled out by Brother John Deere... Same thing when I parked at the
back of the field at Biltmore. Getting in with 2WD was no problem. After
everyone drove in, out, and around the vet checks located between us and the
road during the rainy ride I was VERY GLAD that I had 4WD to get us out.

Although the fuel mileage is a little less than the 2WD version, it still is
not bad. Pulling the GN with two horses at highway speeds it gets 13.5 mpg,
and if I am not towing, it is close to 20 mpg. That's still much better than
the 2WD gas-powered trucks... Guess you could say that I am convinced.
