Having ridden with and with out SMB, the biggest thing I have found is
that they are good for things like gymkhanna/team penning etc. Over
distance they seem to casuse more harm than good. If we are going to
train on a particularly rocky brush covered trail, we will put them on
for scrape protection as much as anything.

My guy Jam gets rubs awful around his white fetlock. Last ride he even
went grade 1 on that leg from the rub. No other problem seen and better
without the bell boots. SMB's rub same spot even worse. Have tried vet
wrap on first before bell boots. Helps except when sandy (like this last
ride).

Have also gotten "scratches" under them. They just do not seem to be
made for our extended use.
