Husband, Jim, and daughter, Robyn, just photographed a 3 day Arab show in
Watsonville, Ca this past weekend. We were comparing the "cost of fun per
minute" between horse show and endurance ride. To enter one class at the
show here are the expenses: grounds fee $10, office fee $10, drug fee $3,
AHSA non member fee $15, IAHA non member fee $15, Resolution 9-90 fee $3,
bar-b-que $7 (per person, including only 1) and the average entry per class
was $15. These total up to $78 (but does not include a stall fee which was
$60 and there was a camper fee which was $10 per night, include these and
the cost goes up considerably). For one class how long would you be in the
ring -- or having fun? In a class that would be competitive enough for it
to be hard for the judge to place the class, maybe 15 - 20 minutes. Compare
that to cost to enter an endurance ride where your maximum time limit for
fun can be 6, 12 or 24 hours, sure a lot less $ per minute for FUN, FUN, FUN!!!!
