Cruppers: To help avoid chafing, be sure there are NO HAIRS caught
between the crupper and the skin under the dock.

Tailing: Alternative to using the actual tail is a strap attached to
the saddle; extra lead rope or any handy line of adequate strength.

Long reins: The term for the slack in a rope is BIGHT, not BITE.
Old sailors know this. :-)
