We just got back from the Old Glory ride in Kennard, Tx. The story goes
like this:
We arrived there @ 3:00pm Friday where friends saved us a spot next to them.
We thanked them and told them we were going to use a generator and would
move to the far side of the camp area so we would not disturb anyone. Where
we moved there was no one for about a city block. As the evening progressed
some people came by us , so we told them of our intentions. There was still
plenty of room all over the place and these people said it didn't matter to
them if we used it. We even started it up so they could decide to move in
daylight or not. Let me also point out the weather at this ride was in the
mid 90's with 80 to 90 % humidity.!!!! After the ride meeting we went back
to camp and settled in our camper and cranked up the generator and the AC!!!
And went to sleep the ride was starting at 6:15am..
About Midnight some very big guy comes banging on our camper, (not knocking)
and demands in a loud voice that we will turn it off or he will come over and
disturb us every 15 minutes til we do .... We were also scared he would let
our horses loose or something worse... My girlfriend told him he didn't need
to be rude that we were sound asleep and promptly turned it off.. My points
are as follows: There were no rules on generators being used or turned off at
night any where in the ride rules. We got less than 2 hrs sleep due to heat
so we had to suffer. Itruley have been there in the reverse of this when
someone pulls next to me and runs one all night, but I feel thats their
right!!! At camps where generators might be ran the ride managers need to
set aside two areas one for no generators and one for generators this may
help...
As for the man well I hope he got a good nights sleep knowing he scared the
(HELL) out two women half his size..

By the way we saw and talked to four or five ride managers from other rides
and told them and they liked our idea also if there is a quiet time please
state it in the ride rules and save all of us a lot of trouble.
