Tevis Cup Survival and Endurance Riding Clinic

AUBURN, California -- An all day endurance riding clinic with tips on
surviving and succeeding at the Tevis Cup 100 Mile One Day Ride is
scheduled for Wednesday, July 24, 1996, in Auburn, California, at the
Gold Country Fairgrounds. The clinic is planned three-days prior to
the Tevis Cup Ride where some 250 riders plan to compete. The clinic
begins at 9:30 AM and includes the following speakers and topics:

Two extremely talented and experienced Tevis Cup competitors, Becky
Hart and Marcia Smith will separately cover their knowledge about the
evaluation and selection of a Tevis Cup endurance prospect, training
and conditioning program geared toward competing in the Tevis, tactics
and strategy of long distance competition, nutrition and feeding
practices before, during and after the event, riding attire
appropriate for Tevis, the importance of rider care and preparations,
benefits of a heart-rate monitor, balanced/centered riding techniques,
and post-ride care. Becky Hart of San Jose, California, is a
three-time World Champion and two-time Tevis Cup Winner. Marcia
Smith, DVM, of Loomis, California, is the 1995 North American
Endurance Champion and 1992 Tevis & Haggin Cup Winner.

Mitch Benson, DVM, Head Veterinarian of the Tevis Cup Veterinary
Examining Committee and the 1994 / 1996 USET World Championship
Endurance Team Veterinarian, will present a veterinary point of view
of the Tevis Cup Ride. Dr. Benson maintains a large animal practice
in Santa Rosa, California, and has served as Chairman of the Ride's
Veterinary Examining Committee since 1990.

Kate Riordan, a Board of Governor of the Western States Trail
Foundation, and 1996 Cup Committee member will give a demonstration of
TTEAM for use and benefit during the Tevis. Kate is editor of the
Sierra Heritage Magazine in Auburn, California, and is well-known for
her knowledge and practice of message therapy in athletic equines.

Rob Edwards, also a Board of Governor of the Foundation, and Head
Farrier for the Tevis Cup Ride will present, Endurance Horse Shoes
Then and Now. Rob is publisher of Anvil Magazine, the Voice of the
American Farrier and Blacksmith, in Georgetown, California. Rob has
conducted studies of endurance horse shoeing and has written numerous
educational articles on the subject.

Other clinic topics include: Perspective - In a Race of Endurance, a
Victory for the Spirit - the Tevis Cup Ride, The State of the Western
States Trail and the 1996 Tevis Cup Ride, an International Endurance
Riding Update, The State of Endurance Riding; an American Endurance
Ride Conference Report, a demonstration of electronic saddle fitting,
and an evening of entertainment by Charles Barieau with a slide show
presentation of past Tevis Cup Rides.

All clinic participants are treated to a welcome reception and
continental breakfast, luncheon, mid-morning and afternoon coffee
breaks, and sponsored prize drawings and giveaways. Sponsors of the
clinic will provide participants with a trade show of their endurance
related products and services. There will be an evening reception and
outdoor barbecue hosted and sponsored by the Western States Trail
Foundation.

The Tevis Cup 100 Mile One Day Ride scheduled for July 27, 1996, and
is the first and foremost equestrian endurance event of its kind in
the World. The historic Western States Trail used by the event
crosses the rugged Sierra Nevada Mountains between Squaw Valley and
Auburn, California. Competitors from as far away as Belgium, South
Africa, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, France and Brazil as well as
throughout the United States and Canada are planning to participate.
The Tevis Cup Ride is celebrating its 42nd Anniversary.

Reservations are being accepted for the clinic and space is limited.
The cost to attend the clinic is $50. There will be a late
