At one time we had some problem with cramping that blood work showed was not
tying up. The E-Se that I started feeding seemed to help and we have not had
any cramping in a couple of years. A word of caution, however - It really is
possible to overdose selenium. While feeding the label amount daily over a
period of several months my horse developed the symptoms of Se toxicity -
excessive hair loss and a line, almost a crack, parallel to the ground around
both front hooves. My vet said that he thinks the line indicates the point in
time where the Se built up to an excessive level. So, Roger's suggestion of
having a test done is a good one, both to determine the need for
supplementation and later on to avoid overdoing it...
