You call that steep? (For the humor impaired, this is a joke)
My driveway is steeper and longer than that.
Well, not much longer - 2.3 miles and climbs about 1500 feet starting
at 5300 feet. I'd call that a warm up.

Now my work out rides tend to be all up and down and big hills
with lots of rocks. However, recently I've begun to wonder if
I need to change my training some. You see, I live on a mountain
and I train on a mountain and poor 'ol Drake nearly gets trippy
when he sees flat land. Because of the steepness, speed isn't a
consideration. I can canter some, but only short distances,
mostly I'm working Drakes power muscles. I know this all helps his
cardio-vascular system, but I wonder if I don't need to interject
some easier flatter trails where he could stretch out into a nice
mile eatting trot.

Our weekly schedule tends to be:
Sat, Sun - 10-20 miles of mountains.
Thursday - 1 hour dressage.
A day or two during the week of an "easy" walk/trot down the mountain
and back. About 4-5 miles total.
Free mountain pasture all the time (Drake does a few miles of a
kick-up your heals and barrel around the mountain side each day.)
