Don't feel too embarrassed. One of my friends boards
at a large professional stable. One morning, the stable help arrived to
find a foal in one of the stalls. Where did it come from when nobody knew
the mare was pregnant? And how did she get pregnant!
I know of another
case where people thought a new mare was pregnant -- and kept her off
work for 13 months before they realized it was just a hay belly. She sure
looked as though there was an extra horse there.
