[endurance] comfortable pants survey

What are your most comfortable riding pants for everyday schooling and trail
riding? Do you remember how much you paid for them? I'm taking a survey.
What do you use under them, if you don't mind? Does anybody use padded-crotch
bicycling shorts or equestrian padded undies, from what supplier, and do you
like them?

I have to get something new for myself because I'm wearing out my riding
jeans. I started wearing just any old jeans, but whoa, the seams in the crotch
make me sit improperly or else I'm in pain, for days afterwards, too! I'd
gotten used to sitting properly while I had real riding pants, and didn't
realize that they were the biggest reason for my seat improvement until now.

When my husband & I rode once on an Equitour in Canada, we got involved in
conversations about stuff like this. Some folks must've felt less inhibited
about talking about their undergarb, maybe because they knew this group would
never see each other again after the two weeks! A few women thought they had a
big personal secret by wearing feminine maxipads everytime they rode, not just
for "that time". When they spilled the beans and were surprised about how many
of our group were doing the same thing they even shared which brand was the
"best". I don't remember which it was.

One of the "macho" guys on the trip said he wore light support pantyhose under
his jeans. Said he "altered" them with a pair of scissors (we didn't ask, but
I guess it's obvious, we were all having to go find trees once in a while). He
said they prevented abrasions (no questions here, either, we were shocked that
he joined in the conversation, I guess). Weeks afterwards I found out that it
wasn't just his secret. Another male endurance rider said he'd "heard of it
before". Aha.

Come on, guys & gals. What's your method of pain avoidance in clothing,
besides the usual sheepskin on the seat?
E-mail me personally at Brickson@sbphrd.com and I'll compile and report
the results, no names used (I promise!)
