Definitely take your horse for a good 5 mile ride on the beginning part
of the OD trail. You will be leaving in relative darkness and it is a
good idea to see what that part of the trail looks like--there's a really
big climb up to the Parkway. This is especially important since you are
trailering such a long distance. You might even want to ride Thurs PM
and Fri AM/PM. That way you will take the edge off, the horse becomes
familiar with the surroundings and keeps those muscles/joints flexible.
You will see virtually ALL of the riders out pre-riding the trail, or
just beebopping around camp visiting on horseback.
