[endurance] do you ride before a ride?

how's that for a subject line? :->

What I'm wondering is this - what are your thoughts on taking your horse
for a short ride on the trail the day or so before the ride? Is it worth
the risk of getting that close and then not starting cause of a rock or
hole with your name on it? Does familiarity with the last few miles make
that big a difference? After a long haul, is it a good idea for loosening
up?

I'll get to the OD sometime early Thursday - that leaves the rest of that
day and Friday before vet-in and I'm wondering if I should saddle up Embers
and take him for a short spin. I have not ever done that but I have a)
never arrived this early and b) never hauled that far so I'm wondering if
this would be a good idea or I should just let well enough alone :->

Embers (don't you think riding on Saturday will be *enough* for one weekend?)
