Dear Endurance Riding Friends;
All this talk about whether the animal rights activists will or will
not "get wind" of our sport reminds me of the stories my husband, Phil
Gardner, tells about how the forefathers of our sport (him included) used to
ride through Foresthill on the day of the Tevis, horses pulling hard on the
reins while "activists" drove alongside in tears begging them to put a stop
to the abuse. This is nothing new and it's only thanks to the ride vets,
managers and all of us who love our horses enough to put their welfare above
everything in our lives that keeps our sport alive. This doesn't mean we
can rest easy though, we do need to keep informed about what those who would
see that every animal is set free are up to.
