Hey... a Magnum Post! As everyone knows, I have a TB *and* I
have a HRM. And we've actually gone through vet checks at
rides.

Magnum's resting HR at home is 36 -39.
Vetting in night before: 44 ish
Just before taking off down the trail: 40 - 50
Just before taking off ... ! See a cow!: 70 (in split second)
Trotting flat: 75 - 85
Trotting rated uphill: 95 - 101
"Hambletonian" trot uphill: 106
Cantering uphill: 96
Gallop start of 2.6 mile hill... then give up and let him run his
heart out to top (est. 35 mph and still going) stop and get off
and start to walk him and check monitor: 140
Get off and walk up really steep hill during very hot
mid summer day, Magnum says he's on his last legs: 64
Walk 1/4 mile to check, stop for drink and splash,
yell lungs out for P&R's: 56
49 miles into 52 mile ride: 60 drop to 56 after trot out.

Spook at tree: 115

As you know, he's an off the track TB so he developed his
circulatory system at a young age. We have brought that
back into shape over 2 years. Hope these numbers help.
I have somehow never had a problem with vet checks. He's
actually more relaxed at a full blown endurance ride than
in a training ride... knock on wood. ;-)

Good for you for corrupting... er... encouraging another
endurance rider! And one on a TB at too! I'm impressed.

and Magnum the TB ex-racer in No. Cal
... who really does have Hambletonian back there in his
pedigree... and I thought it was *me* that taught him to
trot... :)
