[endurance] Altitude training & how it affects endurance horses

I have a few questions, and I apologize if this has already been covered.
If it has, please let me know which month, and I'll go back thru the archives.

Does anybody know, or have any experience with the effects of training or
conditioning our horses at a higher elevation? I know human athletes will
train at a higher altitude - but have any studies been done on how this
would affect our horses?

Do horses that train and live at sea level have a harder time adjusting when
they travel to a much higher elevation to do an endurance ride? How does
this affect their recoveries, hydration, etc.? Has anybody moved from one
elevation to another and noticed any difference in their horses abilities?

Do my horses have an advantage because they are training at a 4500 to 9000
foot elevation when they go to a ride in a lower elevation? How, why, and
what would be contributing to any possible difference in their performance?

Just wondering.... thanx,

Karen in Gardnerville

P.S. Am still collecting data on the tow vehicle question - will post the
results shortly - I got more reponses from people wanting to know the
results than anything, so if any of you see this please send me the info on
your towing rig/trailer and I'll keep compiling all the info. Thank you!!
