This is very much how Special's abcess presented itself. Untill, she went
3 legged lame. I too was at a loss, as to what it was. If I was you, I
would get your vet or farrier to check it with hoof testers.

As far as skipping the ride goes; it could be nothing, or it could be
something serious. Why take the chance??? You could be out the ride
money, gas money and have a seriously lame horse. When it comes to me
and my horse, I will always err on the side of caution. Good luck!
