I use a mohair string girth.

Natural fiber, easily contours to the shape of the horse, cheap,
washable.

I have never had a problemm with:
a)saddle slipping--I don't use a breast collar...ever.
b) girth galls
c) heat bumps
d) stiffness in cold weather
e) anything else I could think of

I would never use anything else for endurance.
For the show ring I have to die it the same color as my horse (which is
why the cheap comes into it).
