Karen @ Sullys Maze sent this to me about heart monitors. What does everyone
think?

-------

I am still undecided about the belt models. I think it is
too soon to tell about those, and it is possible that very soon
then will make one with a replaceable battery. I believe that
Roger Rittenhouse will soon have one out there. I just have the
basic model, I think the light would be really handy, but don't
really have any interest in one with an alarm (since you are
watching it anyway.) Did you see the post from Easyrate (Garret)
It is interesting. Yes, the wires are a pain in the neck. They
break. The velcro comes off theback of the electrodes. You may
be looking at replacing the wires and electrodes once a year, to
the tune of $25. It makes the replacement of the transmitter
to the belt ($50) about a comparable price. The belt system
is MUCH simplier, and does have the advantage of staying on the
horse with the saddle is off. From what I have seen, however,
often when the horses is standing still there is no reading. You
really have to play around with them to get a reading, and I am
not convinced it is as accurate as the wire one.
You might post that to the endurance groups and see how many people
have used both and what they think. Even with the wire model, you
STILL have to fiddle with it. If the cinch gets too loose, you
lose contact. The wires can pull out of the electrodes while you
ride, also. They both are not foolproof, yet when working, are
truly wonderful.
