Well, we had a great time! I took my stallion and he managed to keep
everyone awake cause he thought Teddy'shorse was a mare (someone left
urine spots right where his pen was set up)but acted fine otherwise. I
finally took a long stick out there and whacked him one when he tried to
holler at her horse- he cut it down to little whinnies then. He is usually
very wuiet!
Anyway, we completed our ride but went over time- I was with a cute little
Paso Fino mare who was feeling the mountains a bit and since we were having
such a good time, we went a little bit slowly over the second half of the
30 miler. I got my fifty dollars worth!
Unlike Diane, we walked into our vet checks with pulses of 44 bpm and CRi
was 44/44- AND my horse didn;t go lame this time. I probably could have
pushed him a little on the second half, there were places we could have
trotted more. Anyway, we went from snoow on Wednesday to 80degrees on
Saturday, so I didn't wnat to have him die of heat exhaustion! I guess
overall I was happy with this ride- I wanted to get in on time, but mostly
I wanted him to see that trail again cause it will probably be the worst
part of the OD 50. We drank at every stream and puddle and I even got off
at one point and went into the stream with him- got my feet nice and cool
for the end of the ride!

The only bad things that happened were that when I got on first thing, he
turned into an idiot cause his crupper wasn't quite right (wasn't tight
enough and he actually got upset about it) and his saddle was too far
forward for his liking, so he did some dancing around trying to get it
straightened out. We did.

The othere thing that happened was (and I can't believe this one!) while we
were trotting along on the first part of the forest road, some old guy was
pulling logs out of the forest with a cable that he had stretched across
the ROAD and attached to his truck. Well, he didn't stop even though he
said he would, and when Aly saw that "snake" coming at him, he did a
quick 180 and I got dumped. My legs immediately cramped (i need more
exercise!) so I couldn't catch him, but luckily the other nut with the
first guy had the brains to catch him while I was down. Man was I mad!
Anyway, I climbed back on, and warned them that there were two even MORe
green horses coming behind, so I don't think they had a problem. Sheesh.
I tried out and liked my new corral- Aly didn't test it but one time and
that was a quick kickto the rear- he got himself nailed good on that one-
took a hunk of skin off, and hasn't tried kicking it again. I am going to
put chicken wire on it so he can't get his leg hooked on it, and I am also
going to take a rope with me to anchor one end of that corral to a tree so
he can't accident;y move it. Teddy's hrose was picking it up and moving it
with his teeth, and also butt scooting it! It is quite heavy though.
All in all, a greaat weekend, and met some of y'all!
Gwen
