No, I have not tried weighted shoes. One endurance clinic I attended
presented by Dr. Bruce Hanson, I think of New Jersey or maybe Pennsylvania,
said that the lighter the shoe that can support the foot and the terrain the
better for going the distance. I had asked about aluminum and he liked them
but the downside was they could only be used once because of the wearing on
the nailholes. So maybe weighted shoes might work for a period of time but
for distance I don't think so. I had asked about the same thing because my
horse will drag his rear feet. With aluminum not able to hold the shape he
wore his toe down to where it looked like the classic book pictures of stifle
and hock problems. He never came in with anything but A's and a private bet
check (not at encurance rides) showed no problems, also not EPM. But
anyway, everything I've ever heard is weighted shoes should not be used to go
the distance. I'm always looking for new info though so someone let me know
too if this is not fairly unanimous..
