Just a couple of comments about geting out of the way...

I will not get behind you if my horse is going along at a good clip on a
narrow dangerous trail. My horses don't kick ususa;y either, but if you
were behind me when we got into that stretch of terrain, I would expect you
to remain there till we are in a clear zone where you could easily pass. I
have been stuck behind slow horses before, and in that sort of situation,
you ought to stay put where you are until it's safe. If you can't keep your
horse's NOSE out of my horse's tail, then he shouldn't be there. IMHO of
course. :)

Most horses don't seem to mind if one butts up against them - it's when
they actually get the NOSE stuck in the horse's tail. MOst horses seem to
have a 6 inch zone around them where they can be a little testy with a new
horse. So I do my best to adhere to that rule of thumb and keep clear. But
I am not going to just get over when there is no way to do so safely. I
realize you were talking about a regular trail situation, but that kind of
grates at me cause I have been in this situation- I have ahorse that likes
to get right up against other horses so I hold him back. If i can do it,
anyone can. :)

I will often use a non kicker from my own place to teach a horse to work in
company and slow down the pace a lttle bit if they want to run. It helps a
lot when you get to the first ride and they want to race- once they realize
their buddy isn't going anywhere, they settle down and act civilised!

No offense intended.
