[endurance] essentials carried

After reading many different discriptions of what everyone carries on
themselves or their horse, I was inspired to "clean out" my cantle bag. You
can tend to forget what's in it after a while. I came across a few things I
didn't see mentioned and thought I would share them.

A chain saw. This is the small version and without gasoline. I found it in
Cabela's catalog. It comes in a very small round tin and 2 wooden handles.
It is very light and fits down in the corner of my cantle bag. I bought it
because a few times we would be riding out a few hours on a trail and come
to a tree across the trail. There was no safe way around the tree and
because there was many small branches going every which way it would have
been dangerous to ask the horse to go over it. This chain saw will cut
through small branches very easily thus proventing us from having to turn
around.

Electrolytes, small jar of baby food applesause and a syringe. I have used
this to mix up electrolytes for my horse half way during a ride when she
became dehydrated. The baby food jar is the right size to mix the
electrolytes in and add to the syringe.
