[endurance] Bizarre accident

Well I don't think anyone will believe this. There was a death involved.

Saturday I was on my way to Decatur Tx to work on the trails for the Pro-Am
Challenge ride March 30-31. We were having 35-45 mph wind gusts. A vulture
swooped down to grab a piece of road kill in the opposite lane. The bird
tried to lift it, but it was too heavy. A tractor Trailer came up on him
real fast. He droped the rabbit and took off. The bird got caught in the
wind gust/ tractor tuberlance. It did a summersault, glanced off the top of
my truck about 1inch above the windshield on the drivers side. Slammed into
the 8 by 15 inch plexiglass window on the front of my gooseneck, and came
to a rest on my pillow in the gooseneck. Well half of it was on the pillow
and the other half was still hanging out the window. It was a strange site
driving down the road with a vulture hanging half way out my shattered
window. The horses in the back of the open stock trailer had feathers all
over the place when I let them out.

And there wasn't a camera anywhere. However I do have people who watched me
extract the dead body. Guess I'll have to wash my pillow now, besides fix
the window. Its a little drafty, and I would hate for a bird to fly into
it, again!!

Well my truck has a very slight dent, the trailer window is missing, and
the metal around the window is dented big time, but it missed my windshield
(with my ugly mug right behind it) and it missed the open slats of my stock
trailer. Can you imagine if that bird had hit about half way down the side
where my horses were?

My guardian angle sure was looking out for me on Saturday. Oh yea I forgot
to mention later on in the day my 4 year old stud did three real pretty
rear ups with me on when 2 riders charged by on a tight trail. My friend
said if it was on tape I would play it over and over. It must have looked
better than it was. I was ponying my competiton horse and I never even let
go of the lead rope. No harm, no file!

Ps Since I'm the trail master for this ride, I do intend to enjoy myself
this weekend if I can get that window fixed. Lots of peeping Toms (sorry
Tom) in region 4 of NATRC.
