[endurance] Horse Likes Powerbars

I give my horses granola bars. They consist mostly of oat
and honey. I ride in an area that is frequented by large herds of mtn. bikers,
a few horses and no hikers. I try to always stop and chat with the bikers
and my horse Max has learned that bikers carry Power bars. He'll stop and
stretch his nose out, sniffing. The bikers are amused and usually offer him a
power bar. He has not suffered any ill effects. Does anyone know if
chocolate is a no-no for horses, like it is for dogs & cats? I'm talking
small amounts, like you would find in a chocolate chip granola/power bar.

My 5 year mare watched my riding buddy eating a Powerbar today and asked
for some. Gave her a little bite; she contorted herself into all sorts of
positions wanting more. This while being shod.

It was mocha, I don't even LIKE mocha, took me forever to LIKE Powerbars,
got tired of melting Fibars. Looked at the ingredients, oat bran figured
high up the list. Anyone think it's harmful? No more mocha, she'll have
to like apple-cinnemon or banana or berry. It's so dry, I wouldn't feed it
on any kind of ride, but as an occasional dime-sized treat.

TIA
