The 100 mile horses--and this is based on years of observation from the
pit crew perspective (i.e. when I'm not setting up the "food booth")--is
that many of the "top ten" 100 milers canter quite a bit. Not fast, just
a 10-12 mph "collected" canter. Few will do the "racing trot". That
seems to be reserved for the quickie-fifties.
