[endurance] really bummed out....

I am **really** bummed out today - I have been aiming for the War Eagle 50
(our first 50) on March 30 since mid-January. I've been getting off work
early to ride in the ring a little as the days get longer, scheduled long
rides each weekend, (what most of you do too I'm sure) I've trailered down
there to ride and help with the trails, Tony looks and feels great, good
recoveries, etc., I've been *so* excited about it and then this weekend he
cut the back of his fetlock open (you know the crease back there that is
impossible to stitch or keep a bandage on - duct tape stock oughtta jump
in the next week or so....) down to the tendon sheath on a training ride
Saturday:-<< He'll be out for 2 or 3 weeks - talk about dissappointing!
Please think *no proud flesh* for me :->

How much will 2 or 3 weeks off affect us? I know horses lose fitness at a
slower rate than humans but that's about the extent of my knowledge on gaps
in a conditioning schedule. Any comments appreciated.

thanks,
(a very sad) Tina
(a very sore) Tony
