As many other people have said, I have rope reins that I made. I got the
rope at the feed store, it's regular "lead rope" nylon. It's about 5
feet long. Too long for other riding, but perfect for trails. And I
have clips on the ends. I also have an endurance halter headstall, with
fastex buckles for the bit. So I can just unclip the reins, drop the
bit, hook one end to the halter ring, and then either hold the other end;
or I can loop it around a tree or limb and fasten the other end to the
halter ring too. No knots to tie!! I really LOVE this system. It's
very fast and easy. I also discovered that I could clip my bit to my
breastcollar, for an easy bit holder. I think I paid $7 for the rope and
all the hardware for my reins.
