[endurance] Trail ropes & eats

Tina asked about suggestions for trail ropes. I have had great luck with
climbing ropes. Go down to REi, or any good outdoor outfitter, and look at
their selection. I made a lead rope of very attractive yellow and blue
rope that is stronger than my horse, and it is only about the size of my
little finger in diameter. It folds up nicely and stuffs in my fanny pack,
or better yet, I tie it on the outside of the fanny pack with those little
jacket strings. A friend has an even smaller rope she can put in her
pocket, and is very strong for its size. One time we attached all these
little ropes together, clipped one end to a collapsible water bucket, and
lowered the bucket down about 30 feet to a stream below us. That was the
ONLY way to get water. Very handy! And you will be all set if you ever
need to go climb Mt. Everest!

Oh, and as for eating and drinking- Powerbars and Gatorade work the best for
me. I use Cytomax on the long distance bicycle rides, but that stuff is pure
carbohydrate, and can be a bit much on your stomach if you are not
excersizing hard. We use the powdered Gatorade mix- you can put it in
little zip lock baggies and bring it with you on a ride. I do try and avoid
the Power bars with the worms in them, though.
