[endurance] Bad habit

I had a mare who was obsessed with another mare and couldn't bear to be
stalled if the other mare was out. She would pace as you describe and work
herself into a frenzy.

You didn't mention if you can stall the gelding next to her, or if she only
displays this behavior when the gelding is around and out of reach, or out
of sight.

The obsession ended when I sent the other mare away for breeding. The
obsessed mare got over it. When the object of her obsession came home, she
didn't seem to remember the old behavior pattern.

I've also found this, but in minor form, with horses unaccustomed to being
stalled. Placing another horse next to such horses helps, particularly if
you start out with a few minutes and gradually increase the stall time.

Hope some of this helps.
