I have been reading endurance digest this past month trying to soak up any
and all information I can in regards to endurance riding. I am just changing
gears from quarter horse pleasure riding to endurance riding.
I have spent the past two months searching everywhere for a horse. I have
looked in Boise, all of Washington and Oregon and now even Arazona. When do
I know when I have found the right horse? I am an intense athlete and for a
long time my friends have told me I should get into this sport. I want to go
as far as I can and with the same horse if I can.
I have also read all the Endurance news from the past year as well as Trail
blazer 94-95-96 and the past two Western Horseman editions. (How to choose
the right endurance horse) or close to it.
How many miles a day do you ride and at what pace? Do you train your horses
like an athlete trains for a marathon? How effective is Interval training?and
how often? Mountain climbing?and how often?
I read Mike Foss's article about the different muscle types, when fat
matabolizes to slow and it is time to move into the glucose storage. When can
I tell when my horse is at that point?
At what point do you get off your horse and run or walk along side him/her?
How many hours a day do you ride and what type of round pen training will
help?
All of the body chem information from earlier this past month was exciting to
read. Where can I get this information laid out in laymans terms? I also
spotted a book on training with your horse. It was a book written for the
rider's training as well as the horses training. I have since lost the ad.
does anyone know the book? Would it be helpful? where can I get it?
