Hi Karen,

I did the American River 50 last year and it is a very nice ride and well
organized. The 50 and 75 start at Negro Bar in Folsom and the 25 starts
either at Beals Point or Granite Bay (can't remember) which is 5 miles up
the trail. You will need to have someone move your rig because the lunch
stop is in Auburn and the second half loops up around the Cool area and ends
back in Auburn. The trail is beautiful. There are plenty of rocks and
hills, including what they call "Cardiac Hill" going into Auburn before
lunch, but a very nice stream to sponge and scoop your horse before you get
in to the vet check. Last year because of all the rain, the second half was
pretty muddy in places and there were shoes strewn all over the trail and
people yelling out to borrow easy boots. They had a farrier in Cool. The
American River canyon section in the afternoon was pretty toasty, even in
April. It's a nice ride and I hope to do it again this year. Sorry I don't
know anything about Scotts Flat.
