finish to response to 'shit happens':

...appreciate the fact that when people are seriuosly injured in accidents,
expecially head trauma - that they lose much sometimes all of their 'control'
and 'choices' - they have to wait until someone else has the time to even
wipe the drool from their mouth or help them relieve themselves... sorry not
to be gross - but it's life facts with head trauma patients...

I volunteer with handicapped riders all year long - what they would give to
have the chance again to 'choose' the "helmet" to keep their 'freedom'.

as to your comments of "I am one of those people who believes that it is not
good enough to tell your children that the stove is hot - I think they should
find out for themselves" I hope
that no child has to find out about head trauma for themselves becuase their
guardian felt they should make their own 'choice' as a child what do they
know about permanent life-altering injury - they are kids - and if I remember
I thought I was pretty much indestructable at that age..

And Truman was right in his post - "this is not a risk free sport". We
recognize it can be deadly and dangerous - but we don't want to quit or give
it up - just play 'safe' as possible.

Hope I don't ever have to see anyone else wishing for a second chance to put
the riding helmet on... it's so easy.

Have a great Holiday season with your family and horses.

May we all Ride Safe and Sound -
